Ford Blue Advantage CPO Warranty Explained
Every Ford Blue Advantage™ certified pre-owned vehicle comes with Ford-backed warranty coverage, but how much depends on which of the program's three certification levels it earns. A Gold Certified vehicle gets a 12-month/12,000-mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty plus a 7-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty; an EV Certified electric Ford gets 12-month/12,000-mile comprehensive coverage plus an 8-year/100,000-mile BaseCARE EV Limited Warranty; and a Blue Certified vehicle gets a 90-day/4,000-mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty. At Suntrup Ford Kirkwood, we sell all three levels, and we walk buyers from Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Ballwin, and across St. Louis County through exactly what's covered — and what isn't — before they sign.

Comprehensive vs. Powertrain: What Each Warranty Covers
The two warranty types do different jobs. The Comprehensive Limited Warranty is the broader, "bumper-to-bumper-style" coverage: it's designed to cover defects in most of the vehicle's components — think electrical systems, climate control, infotainment, and most mechanical parts — for a shorter window. The Powertrain Limited Warranty is narrower but lasts much longer, focusing on the parts that make the vehicle go: the engine, transmission, and drive components such as axles and the transfer case on 4x4 models. On EV Certified vehicles, the BaseCARE EV Limited Warranty covers key electric-vehicle components. Exact covered parts, exclusions, and any deductibles are listed in the warranty documents for each vehicle, and our team will show you those documents before you buy.
How the Gold Certified Powertrain Clock Works
This is the detail most shoppers miss: the Gold Certified 7-year/100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is measured from the vehicle's original in-service date — the day it was first sold new — not from the day you buy it certified. That means the newer and lower-mileage the vehicle, the more coverage you keep. A few examples (whichever limit comes first):
2 years old, 24,000 miles
About 5 years or 76,000 miles of powertrain coverage remaining.
3 years old, 36,000 miles
About 4 years or 64,000 miles of powertrain coverage remaining.
5 years old, 70,000 miles
About 2 years or 30,000 miles of powertrain coverage remaining.
We're happy to calculate the remaining coverage on any specific vehicle — just ask when you contact our team. For a model-specific example, see our comparison of a certified pre-owned vs. new Ford Explorer.

Benefits That Come With Every Ford Blue Advantage Vehicle
Beyond the written warranties, all three tiers share a set of buyer protections:
- 14-Day/1,000-Mile Money Back Guarantee (whichever comes first) — return the vehicle to the selling Ford dealer and they'll work with you to find a better fit. Conditions apply; see dealer.
- 24/7 Roadside Assistance — flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing, 365 days a year: 7 years on Gold, 8 years on EV, and 90 days on Blue Certified.
- Free CARFAX® Vehicle History Report on every certified vehicle.
- Ford Rewards Points — 22,000 points for Gold or EV Certified and 11,000 for Blue Certified, after enrolling within 60 days of purchase.
What the Ford Blue Advantage Warranty Doesn't Cover
Certified coverage is strong, but it isn't unlimited. Routine maintenance (oil changes, rotations, fluids) and normal wear items such as tires, brake pads, and wiper blades aren't covered — that's where the Ford Rewards Points help. The program also doesn't include trip-interruption or rental-car reimbursement. If you want longer or broader protection, you can add a Ford Protect extended service plan, and you can ask whether your vehicle qualifies for the Suntrup Lifetime Powertrain Loyalty Program, which requires scheduled maintenance at a Suntrup service facility.
How to confirm a vehicle is truly Ford Blue Advantage certified
Ask for the completed inspection checklist (172-, 127-, or 139-point), the certification paperwork showing the tier, and the CARFAX report. "Certified" on a non-Ford dealer's lot isn't the same as Ford Blue Advantage — only participating Ford dealers can certify vehicles under Ford's program.
